Both guys were very deserving of this. Even though J.D. Martinez would have gotten my vote for first place, Mookie Betts was right there behind him in my eyes. Christian Yelich was a no-brainer, too.
In the end, the voters pretty much got it all right this year. I think Bob Melvin winning Manager of the Year in Oakland was a bit odd — more on that in this week’s podcast — and Martinez not being in the top-3 MVP vote-getters was beyond dumber — more in last week’s podcast — but outside of that, the right people won each award.
