The outrage that has come from Urena drilling Acuna has been absolutely absurd. But there’s been nothing more ridiculous that the people losing their minds over what Keith Hernandez said:
I understand if you don’t agree, that’s one thing, but people seem “offended” by this and that blows my mind.
You don’t want to hurt Acuna. But do you want to keep letting him smack balls all around the yard?
“If you want to get him out, then pitch better.” I’ve heard/seen that through the course of this. When a guy is hitting like THIS you can’t really do anything to get him out. That’s why you buzz him or drill him, to not let him feel comfortable anymore.
Anyways, Hernandez made a statement on SNY addressing his comments:
I fail to see anything wrong with what Hernandez said there.
Realllllly? Nolan Ryan, the same guy who famously DESTROYED Robin Ventura. This guy’s a former player, he must have seen that video at some point.
I’m not saying Hernandez has handled everything well in life, I don’t know much about him, other than he was on the Mets and Seinfeld. But he’s pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one.
And to be clear, the Braves should not just accept what Urena did. That’s not what I’m saying at all. They were right to be pissed. It’s their guy! But they are really the only ones that should be.
