I thought this year’s home run derby would be a bit of a let down with Mike Trout, J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts all sitting out, and only 1 American League participant (which is still a bad look). Definitely was not the case.
While I think most would agree, Cubs fans weren’t exactly thrilled with the finish:
They kind of have a point. I definitely noticed Bryce Harper’s dad quick-pitching at times throughout the night. But if you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying, right?
Also good move by the umpire, letting things run their course and not getting in the way. As much as there’s a champion at the end of this, it’s all about the entertainment value.
One other thing…haven’t Cubs fans been courting Harper to sign in Chicago? I get he’s not their guy yet, but I feel like this is something they should just let him have. He might be boys with Kris Bryant, but you don’t want to give Harper any reason to sign somewhere else.
