Seams Legit: Somehow Brad Stevens lost another Coach of the Year award to a guy who got fired

Dwane Casey was in fact fired at the end of the year, right? Or did I dream that up?

How do the voters justify this one? At least when the other NBA coaches voted it made a little sense. They didn’t want a young guy like Brad Stevens winning the award so early in his carer. Makes everyone else look bad.

Stevens and the Celtics finished second in the Eastern Conference, right? And they didn’t have Gordon Hayward, their second best player all year, right? And, I’m a little more certain on this one, Kyrie Irving missed the last 15 games of the season.

For what it’s worth, Casey had his two best players, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan, all year.

Obviously the postseason can’t be factored in — that’d only make this decision look worse — but it didn’t need to be for Stevens to win this.

When the Celtics lost Hayward all expectations went out the door. The Celtics had no shot at going deep in the playoffs and they’d end up around a 5th seed at best.

Were the Raptors not expected to do well this year?

If LeBron James has a semi-competent supporting cast and Irving or Hayward doesn’t get hurt — the Celtics don’t even need both for this — the Raptors are not the first place team in the East.
