Dark Trinity: Batman/TMNT II #3

For some reason it never occurred to me that Damian Wayne and Raphael would fight one another. Seriously, two of the biggest babies in comics working alongside each other? What could go wrong?

Obviously there’s no doubt they won’t go too far, although everyone else seemed concerned. But that’d be a bit much, Raphael putting Robin in the hospital or Damian Wayne offing one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

But as I read their inferior-complex-driven banter throughout Freddie Williams II’s awesome action scenes, I wondered who’d actually win that fight. I haven’t read a whole lot of the TMNT — though plan to soon — but in the cartoons, from my childhood, they seemed like on the older end of their teenage years, but based on how they all act in this series it seems like they’re more like 14 (which does work). Why else would Raphael pick a fight with Damian. I get he’s Robin and trained by the League of Assassins, but come on.

Having said that, as much as I wholeheartedly like Raphael more than Damian, I think Robin wins this fight. Seemed like he was taking it a bit easier than his turtle counterpart and there’s no question Raphael was going full force, given his borderline rage.

That doesn’t mean I’d WANT Damian to win. He’s a pain in everyone’s ass, there’s no doubt there. No shock either that Robin started the fight either. Easily one of the most annoying characters in all of comics. Still, he wins if it’s one-on-one v. Raphael.

Now this is just speculation, but I think most of you would guess the same, I bet they become best friends by the end, given the two are similar — solely because they get angry, because Raf is SO MUCH cooler than Damian Wayne. And it’ll happen because Raf ends up saving Robin, not the other way around. Raf is definitely more forgiving, so it’d take him saving Damian for them to bury the hatchet, not the other way around. If Robin saved Raphael, you know it’d only make things worse with that little rat (I mean Damian, not Splinter) being so cocky, he’d only rub it in.

Certainly is the best part of this issue.

We saw things aren’t getting easier with Bane being even more juiced up now and his new pals Bebop and Rocksteady have been given the venom, but this was more of a transitional issue for the the main plot. A solid issue, though, nonetheless.
